Below is an excerpt from a letter written by Dave Whalen, the skipper of The Clagett Sonar granted to the Y-Knot program in 2016:
"Sailing is a special sport. It's one of the few sports where amateurs are regularly able to engage with, and compete against, professionals. And our sport is a leader in providing accessibility for those with disabilities.
As a quadriplegic, to be able to be on the starting line and race with an incredible crew against other skilled sailors is just as breathtaking and amazing experience, without equal in any other aspect of my life.
I'm deeply appreciative of being able to sail as a result of this wonderful program."
