August 20, 2018
NEWPORT, R.I. (August 20, 2018) – The C. Thomas Clagett, Jr. Memorial Clinic and Regatta is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the 2018 Clagett Boat Grant Program. In 2018 two 2.4mR boats will be available as part of the Clagett Boat Grant Program and applications from either individual sailors or community sailing programs in North America, close on September 30 2018.
“The Clagett began the Boat Grant Program in 2016 and the first recipient of a Sonar was the Y-Knot Sailing program in Lake George. In 2017, the program purchased two 2.4mR boats which the program granted to two sailors in Canada, Shaylagh Ley and Delani Hulme-Lawrence. These two sailors come from two well supported community sailing programs which will be able to provide support to these sailors as they work towards their individual sailing goals,” commented Clagett President and Co-Founder, Judy Clagett McLennan (Portsmouth, R.I.).
In 2017 two recipients received a 2.4mR boat each from the Clagett Boat Grant Program; Shaylagh Ley from Nepean, Ontario Canada and Delani Hulme-Lawrence from St Paul in Victoria, British Columbia Canada. Both sailors participated in the 2018 Clagett Clinic and Regatta and raced in the Clagett and US Para Sailing Championships held in Newport, R.I. at the end of June.
“I thought sailing in Newport at Clagett for the first time was really fun. I made a lot of good friends and learned a lot. The boat has helped me learn more sailing skills and learn a new boat in general,” commented Shaylagh Ley, who raced in the 22 boat 2.4mR class at The Clagett this year.
