Third Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta opens invitations to sailors
Newport, R.I. (July 23, 2018) – The third annual Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta is set to see familiar and new faces in September. While request for invitations will remain open, initial invitations will be issued by the end of this week. After two successful years this has become a must-do clinic and regatta for adaptive sailors and all spots will be filled.
This year the Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta will be held September 28-30 at Oakcliff and The WaterFront Center in Oyster Bay, New York. Invitations to participate may be requested through the link below.
Clagett President and Co-Founder, Judy Clagett McLennan commented, “We’re thrilled that we will be partnering for a third year with Oakcliff and the WaterFront Center to host the third Clagett/Oakcliff Match Race Clinic and Regatta. Sailors from across the US have expressed interest in attending and have said that they are excited to be able to race in different format, but one that complements their fleet racing regattas.”
Competitors will once again benefit from the match racing coaching team of Dave Perry and Dave Dellenbaugh. These two have raced against each other and been friends for decades. Their wisdom will be shared with the 30 sailors through coaching, video debriefs, one on one instruction and group debriefs.
Bill Simon, race program director at Oakcliff remarked, “I am proud that we are able to pull all of these organizations together to deliver a top notch event. This has become one of my favorite events and I believe competitors, coaches and volunteers agree.”
Returning to defend her 2017 title will be Pauline Dowell and her Massachusetts based team. In 2016 Dowell, who is a long time blind sailor, was in the bottom of the fleet but her fortunes changed in 2017. Dowell won every match she and her crew raced and took home a convincing win.
“My team and I really look forward to this regatta, mainly because it's an amazing event! It's organized better than most events I've attended. Also being around the phenomenal people at this event makes it special. From the folks running the event, to the coaches Dave Perry and Dave Dellenbaugh but, mostly the other participants. The people are incredible! Super friendly, helpful and great competitors,” commented Dowell.
Scholarships to assist sailors with travel costs to attend the clinic and regatta are available and applications can be made by contacting The Clagett.
