What is a volunteer training manual and why is it important?
As the US Adaptive Sailing Resource Manual highlights, it is incredibly important to organize, train and inform your volunteers on safe and approved procedures for your facility and program. The resources below provide examples of volunteer training manuals, that may be helpful to model as you build an adaptive program. An Adaptive Equipment Questionnaire and sailor intake forms are helpful resources for new sailors and volunteers.
For example on page 28 CRAB's manual details safe procedure for several transfer methods, including using a transfer box and a hoyer lift. It is important to both provide volunteers with a training manual and conduct active, in person on site traning. It is also important to remember that all programs use different procedures, due to the flexible and diverse nature of the sailor needs and facility resources.
